Wallspace
Detail

Perspectesia is my thesis exhibition at Hunter College. The installation consists of two opposing walls with a photograph of an empty apartment silk-screened directly onto one wall and a large carpet with a photograph printed on it mounted on the other. The silk-screen photo is printed in white enamel on a flat, white wall. The carpet-photograph shows a railroad tunnel, and the image is dark burgundy red. At first glance, “Wallspace” – the enamel print on the white wall – is invisible. But when standing directly in front of the white wall, the dark carpet behind the viewer – “Deep Rug” – is reflected in the glossy print, making it appear darker than the flat, white parts of the wall, and the image of the apartment appears. Both walls are 10’ x 15 feet.

The Sites category includes projects which have made use of the specific location or situation where the work was shown, as subject matter or frame of reference. Rather than a classic Site Specificity, this is an associative and often metaphorical approach to site as content.
